I was rummaging through the internet warehouse, so to speak, when I stumbled upon this lovely little article on a possible cure for cancer.

I’m full aware of the many pseudo-scientists who proclaim that this particular supplement, or that particular 30 thousand dollar treatment, will end all your pain and suffering. When you’re not educated on the facts, you’ll really and truly believe anything. It’s unfortunate, since much of what’s out there is complete and utter bullshit. And it’s rather heart breaking to see many folks fall for it, because they simply don’t understand the basic science behind it.
This article in question talks about a naturally occurring, and consequently unpatentable compound, called dichloroacetate. So, as you can imagine, pharmaceutical companies won’t go near it because of it’s inability to patent and market a potential drug for it.
The above figure explains the process of which the mitochondria, not the chemical reaction of Glycolysis itself, that is the main target in deactivating the Glycolytic pathway, thus not allowing further cancer for inhabiting the organism. The cell actually undergoes apoptosis (fancy word for programmed cell death), because the energy producing pathway of Glycolysis is turned off. In other words, no energy for the icky cancer cell to thrive on, all other processes start to shut down in the cell, and thus CELL DEATH!!! *dun dun dunnnnnnn* It’s rather brilliant, and a great round-about way to attack the problem of cancer.
Looks like the research for this new fangled dichloroacetate is going to be left to non-profit organizations, and universities. Let the cure begin!
